THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY SON'S LIFE
by Dennis Embert

I was teaching Children's Class, when a man entered the dojo. He was casually dressed, in his late 40's to early 50's. He appeared anxious. He stood nervously in the back, waiting for me to notice him. I made eye contact with him from across the room and he immediately stepped to the edge of the mat and called out to me "Excuse me, are you Chris ....'s Sensei?"

Chris had practiced during the summer months for the last two years. He works during the most of the year in Iowa but spent the summer in New Jersey visiting his children and looking after their grandfather. He had just tested for 5th kyu rank (orange belt).

Chris was not known for his gentle demeanor, therefore when this question was posed I became slightly concerned that he may have caused some trouble for this man. I hesitated for a moment, reviewing the implications of my answer. The question was posed again, a bit louder. Are you Chris's Sensei, are you the main Sensei?"

"Yes", I replied. "Well, I want to thank you for saving my son's life" he said as he grabbed my hand a shook it vigorously. Needless to say children's class stopped as he related his story.

Chris was on his way back to Iowa, when he pulled into a rest stop. He was had refueled, and then headed to the men's room. Two men entered the restroom. He turned to leave, and was immediately attacked by a kick from the first man. He stepped aside and threw the man on the floor.

The second man attempted to grab him, and he did a kotogaeshi (wrist throw) on the first man's wrist (a tad over applied). The man fell to the ground screaming and holding his wrist.  The first man that attacked him had gotten up and decided it was time to leave. In which case he ran from the restroom leaving his "friend" still screaming on the floor.

Chris then got in his car and left.

His father stated: "Chris said that: "It was just like class!" Without your training he could have been killed. Thank you for saving my son." Rest stops can be dangerous places. People wait until they see a person traveling alone, beat them up (if they are lucky), or kill them and steal their car. They are often in the next state before anyone finds the person, or knows to look for them. KOKIKAI AIKIDO SAVED HIS LIFE.

Women:

WHY I PRACTICE KOKIKAI AIKIDO
AJ Embert, PATENT LAWYER

Kokikai Aikido is truly one of the most effective martial arts for women out there. This is primarily due to the fact that strength serves no role in determining how well you can defend yourself. I like Aikido because it has no weight classes, I can effectively defend myself against anyone of any size. I really need that to feel confident as a martial artist and in my ability to defend myself.

Aikido has given me the ability to integrate my mind and body together so that they can work in a complementary manner toward solving the problems of my daily life. I have more confidence now than I ever thought I could have.

I have practiced Kokikai Aikido for 10 years. There are many reasons why I have continued to practice for so long. Primary among these is that I always walk away from class feeling stronger and better than when I went in. Kokikai Aikido makes me feel good because I am always growing.

There is no limit to how much you can learn about Kokikai Aikido and no limit to how much you can use it.

Children:

SCHOOL YARD BULLY
Jessica (as told to AJ)

While playing in the schoolyard a 5th grade boy snuck up behind Jessica's older sister and pushed her into a fence. Jessica (then in 1st grade) grabbed the bully's wrist and twisted it which put the bully in a painful wrist lock called sankyo and sat him on the ground.

The bully was so surprised by the actions of this little girl and the pain that he was feeling that he began to cry. The bully actually went crying to the teacher to tell her that Jessica beat him up!

The teacher knew this boy was the "schoolyard bully" , because usually children run to the teacher to complain about him. The teacher was shocked to find out that little Jessica had given the bully a taste of his own medicine. The teacher told the bully not to pick on little girls and he won't get hurt. Jessica did NOT get in trouble.

The embarrassment of being reduced to tears by a "girl" and a first grader at that ended his career as the schoolyard bully. He walked away from the scuffle physically unharmed.

Kokikai is a truly effective martial art for children. This is primarily due to the fact that strength serves no role in determining how well you can defend yourself.

Most children do not like to hurt others, even in self-defense. Using Kokikai technique children can effectively defend myself against anyone of any size, without hurting the attacker.
