AJ Sensei started Aikido training in 1990 while a student of Physics at Rutgers University. She continued training at Princeton YWCA during the summer and attending Camps with Dan McDougall Sensei, Regional Coordinator of North Jersey. In 1994 she began traning at the Lower Bucks YMCA with Dennis Embert Sensei.
In addition, AJ Sensei has trained directly with Leon Brooks Sensei, 7th dan, the highest Kokikai Aikido Instructor in the United States and now trains directly with Kokikai-Ryu Aikido's founder, Sensei Shuji Maruyama, at camps, classes, and advanced seminars. Aj Sensei has been invited to train with Sensei Maruyama in Japan.
In 1996 AJ Sensei moved to Cherry Hill and cofounded Aikido Kokikai SNJ. First in St. Andrew's Church in Cherry Hill, at the Cherry Hill East High School, and in Somerdale, NJ. These clubs were finally consolidated into Aikido Kokikai Southern New Jersey, with the opening of our Marlton location in April of 1998.
AJ Sensei recently completed her Law Degree at Rutgers University and in addition to teaching Aikido, works at a Patent Law Firm in Philadelphia.
